Amritapuri Campus
All ninety players cheered loudly as the Coimbatore team lifted the winners’ trophy at the 3rd inter-campus football tournament played at the Amritapuri Campus last week. “There was incredible camaraderie between the teams,” stated Br. Akshay, coach to the Amritapuri team. “After the matches, players from opponent teams would go out into the field to share game tips with each other. We all ate together, we cheered for each others victories, there was a keen sense of cooperation in addition to the competition.”
Teams from all five Amrita campuses — Amritapuri, Bangalore, Coimbatore, Kochi and Mysore — played each other in early morning and late evening matches over three days, Feb 26-28; the final was played between Amritapuri and Coimbatore. Although Amritapuri scored a goal in the very 2nd minute after the game began and led until after half-time, Coimbatore equalized the score after half-time and finally scored the winning goal when the game went into extra time.
“I saw many of the matches and one thing that struck me was how players from both teams would often spontaneously clap and cheer for each others’ goals,” shared Dilip R, a B Tech student. “I guess one can’t really see that anywhere else.” “This was a confidence-boosting experience for our boys,” stated Mr. Kumaresan, coach to the Coimbatore team. “They will play next in the Tamil Nadu inter-engineering football tournament that will see participation from over a hundred colleges in the state.”
Inter-campus tournaments at Amrita continue. This week teams from all campuses are in Bangalore to participate in the girls and boys basketball tournaments. We congratulate the winners and wish all the players the very best.
