Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Inaugurates e-Mobility Test Centre and Hosts Workshop on Sustainable Mobility

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s School of Engineering, Coimbatore, in collaboration with Corporate and Industry Relations (CIR), the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Test Systems (ATS), and the SAEINDIA Collegiate Club, successfully hosted a two-day workshop on Sustainable Mobility while inaugurating the state-of-the-art e-Mobility Test Centre.

The event featured key industry leaders and academic experts, including Dr. Sasangan Ramanathan, Dean – Faculty of Engineering and Prof. C. Parameswaran, Principal Director & Chairman – CIR, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, who emphasized Amrita’s commitment to research and industry-academia collaboration in the field of sustainable mobility.

Reflecting on the decade-long journey of the Amrita Automotive Research and Testing Centre (AARTC), Mr. Ramanathan Srinivasan, Managing Director, ATS, stated: “We started AARTC in 2015 with a focus on powertrain testing and vehicle dynamics. Over time, we expanded into advanced areas such as emission testing, NVH, and road load data acquisition. Today, we are taking a significant step forward by launching an EV lab, an ADAS simulation lab, and a battery testing facility. This initiative will not only support cutting-edge industry projects but also empower students and faculty to engage in high-impact research in emerging mobility technologies.”

The two-day workshop provided insights into key advancements in sustainable mobility, including electric vehicles (EVs), software-defined vehicles (SDVs), and alternative fuels such as hydrogen and ammonia. Sessions covered cutting-edge topics such as EV motor design, battery management systems, autonomous vehicle technologies, and hydrogen internal combustion engines.

Participants had the opportunity to tour the upgraded AARTC, which now offers advanced facilities for EV powertrain and battery testing, autonomous navigation, and ADAS development. Established in partnership with ATS in 2015, AARTC continues to serve as a hub for high-impact research and industry collaborations, providing students with hands-on training and career opportunities in cutting-edge automotive technologies.
