IEEE Power Energy Society Student Chapter was inaugurated at the Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru campus on August 10, 2015. The Power and Energy Society provides the world’s largest forum for sharing the latest technological developments in the electric power industry, developing standards and for educating members of the industry and the general public. The target audiences of the event were IEEE student members, faculty and students associated with the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru campus.
The function was presided over by distinguished dignitaries Dr. Kannan Tinnium, Technology Leader at G.E. Global Research & IEEE PES Chair of Bangalore, Mr. Balaram, MD, Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Ltd. (KREDL) and Dr. S. Ravi Shankar, Chairperson, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru. The function began with dignitaries lighting the lamp. A welcome address was delivered by Dr. S. Ravi Shankar. An energizing inaugural address was given by Mr. Balaram who discussed about the relevance of nonconventional sources of energy in the present world where the fossil fuels are being depleted at an alarming rate. Dr. Kannan Tinnium enlightened the audience about IEEE and IEEE PES Chapter, its functions and services it renders to the society. Finally, Dr. M .R. Rashmi, Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical & Electronics, Amrita School of Engineering, proposed the vote of thanks.
