Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s IEEE Student Branch Industrial Electronics Society (IES), the student chapter of Amritapuri Campus, is adjudged the prestigious 2015 IEEE IES Student Branch Chapter Award in the world this year.

The award will be presented at the 41^st Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society- IECON 2015, IEEE IES flagship conference, on November 9-12, 2015 at Yokohama Yokohama-city, Kanagawa, Japan. The IES will sponsor one person to attend the conference and receive the award.

“Our win is so significant because it is decided by the Awards Committee nominated by the Industrial Electronics Society (IES), New Jersey, USA,” shared Rajesh Kannan Megalingam, both Branch Counselor of Amrita IEEE SB and Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Amritapuri.

The award is conferred to an IES SBC which is very active in IES during a particular year. The operation and selection procedure will be conducted by the IES Awards and Honors Committee (IES AHC), the IES Chapters and Joint Chapters Committee (IES JCC), and the IES Student and Young Professionals Activities Committee (IES SYPAC). The award is selected based on activities in the IES SBC that includes Distinguished Lecture Program (DLP) participation, meeting/contest organization and promotion of new student members. The name of the award’s recipient will also be published in the IEEE Industrial Electronics Magazine and on the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society website.

“This award is the culmination of the efforts of all the IEEE student volunteers, whose dedication, untiring efforts and sacrifices made it possible to conduct several technical events for the benefit of the student community, not confined to any particular branch of Engineering. I would have to mention  the contribution of the first student chair of this IES SBC Mr. Goutham Pocklassery who pioneered in building this student chapter in our campus and conducted several events. I would like to thank the office bearers of this society and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham IEEE Student Branch office bearers both past and present, IEEE EXECOM Members, other IEEE student members, non-IEEE student volunteers, Director of Amritapuri Campus Br. ​Amrita IEEE Student Branch Activities

1. Raspberry Pi Workshop 
   A workshop on ‘Introduction to Linux based embedded systems and Internet of things (IoT) using Raspberry Pi’ was organized from January 31^st-February 1^st 2014. The session was handled by Mr. Vysakh Pillai from Cisco Video Technologies India.
2. Distinguished Lecture Program on “Generation of Optimal MOS-Gate Signals for IGBTs” 
   A distinguished Lecture Program on “Generation of Optimal MOS-Gate Signals for IGBTs” was organized on February 17^th, 2014 delivered by Joachim Holtz, Life Fellow, IEEE, University of Wuppertal.
3. Talk on Semiconductor Devices
   An invited lecture was delivered by Joachim Holtz, Life Fellow, IEEE, University of Wuppertal on February 18^th, 2014.
4. Discussion on how to write an IEEE Transaction Paper
   Mr. Joachim Holtz Life Fellow, IEEE, University of Wuppertal, handled a session on February 18^th, 2014.
5. Annual General Body Meeting
   The Student Branch along with all the Student Branch Chapters held its Annual General meeting on February 18, 2014. Joachim Holtz, Professor Emiritus, Wupperttal University, Germany was the chief guest of the program.
6. Verilog HDL Workshop
   A workshop on Verilog HDL coding was conducted by Mr. Rajesh Kannan from February 26-28, 2014.
7. Distinguished Lecture Program on Modelling of Electro-Mechanical Energy Conversion Systems
   A distinguished Lecture Program on “Modelling of Electro-Mechanical Energy Conversion Systems” was organized on July 27^th, 2014 delivered by Dr. Haneda.
8. CMOS Digital Circuit Design Workshop
   A two-day workshop on “CMOS Digital Circuit Design” by Dr. Ramasubramanyam Komaragiri on July 26^th and 27^th, 2014.
9. IEEE Membership Drive
   IEEE Student Branch conducted an intra-college level membership recruitment drive on October 15^th, 2014 as part of IEEE day celebration for the year 2015.
10. IEEEXTREME 8.0- Coding Competition
    Student Branch members participated in a 24-hour international level coding competition conducted by IEEE on October 18^th, 2014.
11. Publication: Smartphone based continuous monitoring system for home-bound elders and patients
