The “Game of Codes” Workshop on Python Programming and Introduction to Competitive Coding was conducted on November 3, 2018, by the Code @ Amrita club of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore campus.
The workshop was led by Dayanand V., Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, and his student team consisting of Akash Ravi, Harshit Agarwal, Kailashnath N., and Mukesh Chugani.
The audience comprised of about 30 students from various schools in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The workshop was aimed at kindling the interest of the audience towards competitive programming and it was successful in it. The forenoon session of the workshop was focused on introducing the students to Python programming language and it’s usage for fast prototyping of solutions. The afternoon session was a mini-contest with four problems hosted on the online judge hpoj.amritanet.edu developed by the club members. The contest was followed by a discussion session on the problems, their solutions and various ways of coding them, especially the advantages of using Python. An informal feedback was collected from the students and the two teachers who accompanied them for the workshop. The feedback is overall very positive and encouraging. The audience has requested for more such sessions with possibly longer duration.
