TCS-AMRITA Sangam, a cooperative venture uniting industry and academia, held its annual award ceremony at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore Campus on September 4, 2010.
Sri. T. S. Rangarajan, Principal Consultant and Enterprise Architect for Nextgen Enterprise Solutions, delivered the inaugural address.
Highlighting competition and how it inspires students to strive for personal excellence, he shared,
“The secret source of success of TCS or any other organization is students like you and it is the peer group pressure that makes you do your best.”
Achieving their personal best, this year’s winners included several students of B.Tech. of Computer Science and Engineering and Information Technology disciplines.
The team comprising Gowtham S., Ramkishore M.V., Suriya P. and Raghunath, won the Best Student Project Award. The team developed a Cloud Management and Monitoring Suite for the Eucalyptus cloud to support both user-level and administrative-level management.
The team explained why they chose the software platform Eucalyptus for their project.
“With Eucalyptus, computing capacity can be efficiently used by customers. By protecting sensitive data and helping deploy new applications faster, this software enables enterprises and government agencies to create their own cloud computing environments.”
Cloud computing is web based processing, providing on-demand shared resources, software and information to computers and other devices like the Smartphone.
In addition, Himanshu Kumar won the Best Student Award; he had developed a high-speed network intrusion detection system using GPUs.
Elaborating on the developed system, he explained, “This is a web-based project that can solve day-to-day problems associated with traffic such as violation of rules and congestion. It provides a new online method of penalizing the guilty, which minimizes corruption in the traffic department and reduces hassles for the common man.”
Himanshu Kumar, who now works as an associate systems engineer at IBM, Pune returned to campus to personally receive the award. He expressed his sentiments about this achievement.
“It’s a different feeling altogether, because last year when we were final-year students, we sat among the audience and now, today, we are here on the other side.”
Yesterday they celebrated the success of their peers.
Today, they are honored for their achievements.
