FRCP Conferred on Dr. Haridas

Dr. HaridasOn March 5, 2010, Dr. K. K. Haridas of Amrita was conferred the title of Fellow of Royal College of Physicians, Ireland in Dublin. He was one of seven recipients world-wide to have received the honor this year.
 

Selected for his contribution to the field of medicine, Dr. Haridas has received international recognition for his work before. He has served as invited faculty member and guest speaker at distinguished forums such as the Euro PCR, Singapore Live, Taiwan Live, AKMG Meet, USA.
 

An invited proctor for the academia in Switzerland, he has performed live operations in teaching forums and meetings in several countries. In 2007, he received the prestigious EMEX traveling award.
 

Dr. Haridas joined Amrita in 1998, when the super-specialty hospital Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences was inaugurated in Kochi. He was given the responsibility of leading Amrita’s Heart Institute.
 

During the first decade of its existence, the Heart Institute performed 65,000 catheterization procedures and 10,000 open-heart surgeries, a record, few hospitals world-wide would be able to match.

Indeed. Dr. Haridas and team have received research grants from several governmental and non-governmental and international research bodies for cardiology-related research. Dr. Haridas has authored many research publications and chapters in textbooks. Under his leadership, interventional fellowship training programs and a DM program was started at Amrita.
 

Several decades ago, after completing his MBBS studies, Dr. Haridas earned his MD, with distinction. Named as the best outgoing student, he then pursued his super-specialty training (DM) in Cardiology and in 1988, obtained the Diplomate of the National Board of Examination in Cardiology under the Government of India.
 

In 1990, Dr. Haridas was selected as the Chiles Interventional Fellow to study at the University of Oregon, Portland, USA. He returned to India after completing his training in angioplasty, atherectomy and device treatment of various heart diseases. Upon his return, he pioneered many new interventional procedures, some for the first time in the country.
 

“Many of these procedures are routinely done today,” he shares.
 

Dr. Haridas has conducted training courses including the DNB in Cardiology. In 2002, he was honored with the Fellowship of the Indian College of Cardiology. We congratulate him on his latest achievement.
