Department of Social Work honors student with scholarship
On March 25, 2022, the first Rekha Eipe Memorial Scholarship Award for Women’s Empowerment and Education was given to scholarship recipient Nasliya N., Master of Social Work student. Shri Prabhakaran Ramachandran, Chairman and Founding Partner, Pravda Law Associates for Litigation in India and Lincoln Global Law Chambers (LGLC) was the special invited guest.
The Rekha Eipe Memorial Scholarship is an endowment fund providing financial aid to talented female students in the Masters of Social Work Program at Amrita.
The event began with an invocation prayer and ceremonial lamp lighting by Br. Vishwanathamrita Chaitanya, Dr. Bhavani Rao, Dean of Social and Behavioural Sciences, and Dr. Meltem Alkoyak-Yildiz, Vice Chair, Department of Social Work. Parvathy V., Research Scholar, shared some words about the event followed by the introductory speech delivered by Dr. Meltem Alkoyak-Yildiz, Vice Chair, Department of Social Work. Ms. Nidhi Zak/Aria Eipe, joined via video conference and shared some touching words about the Rekha Eipe Memorial Fund and expressed her appreciation to our Chancellor, Amma.
Dr. Bhavani Rao extended deep gratitude to the Eipe family for contributing to such a noble cause. She then highlighted the importance of imparting education to the vulnerable and how capacity building and skill development are keys to sustainable livelihood. And the important role of social workers as “social nurses” in today’s world
Special invited guest speaker, Advocate Prabhakaran Ramachandran shared poignant words about the importance of unity in the world and how the students hold a responsibility to uplift those in need. He underscored the importance of education that fosters values like love and compassion.
Ms. Parvathy then enumerated the qualifications for the prestigious scholarship before the award ceremony. The presentation was then given by Dr. Bhavani Rao and Br. Vishwanathamrita Chaitanya to student Nasliya N. Ms. Nasliya expressed her gratitude to Amma, the Eipe family and other the faculty of the Social Work Department for selecting her out of many capable candidates. The event concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Srividya Sheshadri, Associate Director, Center for Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality, followed by prayers for world peace. Congratulations to Nasliya for rising to the occasion and making Amrita proud.
