The Department of Computer Science and Department of Mathematics, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri campus, conducted a five day national level Faculty Development Program on “Deep Learning Unfolded” from May 27-31, 2019. This was a follow-up to an earlier FDP on Demystifying Machine Learning conducted during December 2018.
Dr. S. N. Jyothi, Principal, School of Engineering, Amritapuri campus, inaugurated the program. Dr. Deepak Mishra from IIST Thiruvananthapuram, was the chief guest for the event. He said that such jointly organized FDP will bridge the gap between the mathematical concepts and technological aspects. He gave a plenary talk on Deep Learning, its benefits and applications in the domain of computer vision. Deep Learning is the most sought after technology in industries and academia with the advent of high end processors, unstructured Big Data and Ubiquitous Computing.
Deep learning has its roots in neural networks with mathematics as the crux, modelled loosely after the human brain. Hence, the Department of Computer Science and Department of Mathematics join hands to unfold the intertwine of neural networks with maths and machine learning.
The FDP aimed to equip the participants with deep learning knowledge with hands on training that can help academicians and research scholars to develop their skills in the cutting edge technology of deep learning and the blend of science with technology. The program was well received by the participants.
Participants from various universities and industries with diverse disciplines from all over the country attended the program including: Saintgits College of Engineering; College of Engineering, Aranmula; College of Engineering, Karunagapilly; TKM College of Engineering, Kollam; Bapatla Engineering College, Baptala; Mar Ivanious, Trivandrum; University College, Karyavattom; Nagindas Khandvala College, Mumbai; VIT, Vellor; SriRama Krishna College, Coimbatore, and KSEB.
