A humanitarian project titled “Domestic and Drinking water Reservoir- Bavali (D2Re-B)” was executed by Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Kerala section Special Interest Group of Humanitarian Technology, (SIGHT) successfully at Meenkoli tribal village at Bavali in the district of Wayanad. A 30-member team of students and young professionals of IEEE Kerala section planned the implementation for over a year to supply clean drinking water to 20 families in the tribal village.
Prof. Gayatri Manikutty (AMMACHI Labs), Vice Chair of IEEE Kerala section SIGHT was one of the coordinators for this volunteer group of students implementing the project. A pump of 550W and solar panel of 800W was installed along with a filter to purify water and excess energy harvested was utilised to power the streetlights in the colony.
The venture was inaugurated on 25th December 2022 by Mr. P.V. Balakrishnan, panchayat president of Thirunelli. Dr.Mini Ulanat, chair of IEEE Kerala section, Ms.Valsala, Ward member of Meenkoli , Mr.Satish Babu, advisor of IEEE Kerala section SIGHT, Dr.Sabiq P.V., Chair of IEEE Malabar Subsection and Dr.Gilesh M.P., Chair of student activities committee IEEE Kerala section participated in the inauguration of this humanitarian mission.
