The first ever Developer Weekend was organized in Amrita School of Engineering (ASE), Bengaluru on October 1st and 2nd and for the first time a grand total of 630 student developers came together to celebrate a weekend with developer activities.

In this Weekend, three clubs were involved: FACE (the forum of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering), ACROM (Amrita Club for Robotics and Mechatronics) and the Robotics Club and JIDO, the Industrial Automation Club.  The events were well received by all and served as a platform to hone developer skills.

ACROM (Amrita Club for Robotics and Mechatronics) organized a hands-on workshop on Basics of Robotics in Amrita School of Engineering, Bangalore. The workshop was an effort to familiarize beginners with the basic procedure involved in Robot making and programming. The workshop covered the following modules: Android Control Robot, Line following robot, Edge detection robot and Sumo Wrestling robot. The participants were in groups of four with a takeaway robot for every team. Great participation of 350 students (87 Teams) was observed.

JIDO, the Automation Club of Amrita School of Engineering (ASE), Bengaluru, organized a workshop, cum national level competition, on Industrial Automation PLC & SCADA. An introduction about Industrial Automation, PLC & SCADA was presented on the first day and the hands-on session, followed by a competition, was held on the second day. Students from first to final year of various branches from ASE-B attended the workshop and participated in the event. At the end of the workshop on the second day, a competition was held and seven best performing students were selected and they will be competing directly in the final round competition to be held in IIT, Varanasi in February 2017.

FACE (Forum for Aspiring Computer Engineers) organized a hands-on training on “Web Development” for more than 110 students during the Weekend. The topics covered during the duration of the workshop were: HTML, Creating a layout, linking files, styling of the webpage using CSS and Bootstrap Framework. The workshop proved to be extremely engaging and beneficial to all those who attended it.

Developer Weekend was a community driven two day event, well supported byAmrita TBI – Technology Business Incubator and StudyOwl.in. The motto of Developer Weekend was to ‘focus on new and trending technologies to utilize the weekend to master the technologies learnt’. The next phase of Developer Weekend will give students the opportunity to interact with and gain insights from industry experts from various technical backgrounds.
