The Department of Oncology at Amrita School of Medicine organizes a cancer awareness program to observe World Cancer Day.
This year’s World Cancer Day focused on Target 5 of the World Cancer Declaration: Reduce stigma and dispel myths about cancer, under the tagline Debunk the myths.
Indian film actor Mr. Devan inaugurated the meet. Dr. Prem Nair, Medical Director, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, delivered the presidential address.
The Amrita Preventive Oncology Clinic was inaugurated by Honorable Member of Parliament., Shri K. P. Dhanapalan. Dr. Michelle Aline Antony, Assistant Professor, Department of Surgical Oncology, Amrita School of Medicine gave an overview of the new clinic which cater to the prevention and early detection of common cancers.
Earlier, an essay and quiz competition was organized for school and college students in the city. The prizes for the winners were distributed by Mr. Devan during the event. This was followed by a panel discussion by the doctors and cancer survivors with active participation of students from various schools in the city.
There were poster presentations on cancer awareness by BSc Medical Radiologic Technology (MRT) students. A skit was also presented to highlight the importance of early detection of cancer as well as the preventive aspects in oncology.
The program concluded with a musical extravaganza by Indian music director, Alex Paul and team.
