The fourth edition of Smrithi 2017, the annual get together and Alumni meet of Department of Management, Kochi, was hosted by ‘Niyukti’, the Placement Committee of the campus, on 1st October, 2017. It provided a platform to the alumni to meet and reconnect with their alma mater.The Institute has a rich alumni base of around 500 students spread across its 7 batches of MBA students. A group of 30 professionals and entrepreneurs gathered together at the campus.
Prof. Sunanda Muralidharan, Chairperson, Department of Management, Kochi, inaugurated the function and recounted the journey of the institute since its inception. She apprised the alumni of the developments that have occurred after their graduation and also those in pipeline. Sandhya G, Assistant Professor, Department of Management, Kochi, emphasized the importance of a strong alumni base for an institute and its ability to build a brand.
The event was filled with discussions on MBA, career choices, work-life balance and managing uncertainties. The students also organised cultural programmes. Every MBA batch from the institution was represented at the event.
Ms. Gopika, 2009-11 batch, who placed with Bank of Baroda, elaborated on how the brands open doors for individuals. but the brand itself is built by collective effort. She advised the audience on corporate behaviour, the learning curve at workplace and thanked the faculty members for the guidance and support throughout. Mr. Rajath, 2011-13 batch, a regular attendee of the event, urged the audience to be part of such gatherings. Mr. Jees Kariyil, 2011-13 batch, an entrepreneur, discussed the opportunities in today’s world for start-ups and encouraged the audience to come forward.
“I should confess with all sincerity that my stay at the Department of Management, Kochi was enjoyable and highly productive. The top class faculty, the interactive sessions, and the guidance we received from the teaching staff and above all, the wonderful atmosphere in the hostel, is an experience that will always remain cherished in my heart forever,” shared Aparna Balasubramani (2011-13), one of the alumni, placed with Essilor India Private Limited.
Rahul M. Nair (2013-15), another alumni, currently working at Writer SafeGuard Pvt Ltd, said, “I started my life here on June 2013 as a guy who doesn’t have any idea what to gain from here. As I completed my degree from a govt. college, I was completely alien to the atmosphere here and like others I had my own struggles. Now I’m feeling so glad that all those struggles had helped me to make me who I am now. So I only have one thing to say to the new members of our family- when you find it challenging to move forward, seek help…take help… and believe in yourself…”
