Eleven undergraduate students of the Amrita School of Dentistry attended and made scientific presentations at the National Undergraduate Convention of the Indian Association of Oral Medicine & Radiology (IAOMR), held at Kozhikode on 16th October, 2016. The event which saw participation from around 100 dental colleges from all over India witnessed more than 250 scientific presentations (papers and posters) by undergraduate students. The Amrita team consisted of Ms. Jaseela Rahmath, Ms. Balyasree Babu, Ms. Amal, Ms. Ashmi, Ms. Jerinamol James, Ms. Aiswarya P, Ms. Johana Elizabeth John, Ms. Nanditha Venkatesh, Ms. Alsiha George (all from final-year BDS), Ms. Anjali M Nair (III year) and Dr. Anjali Nair (Intern). Four students presented scientific papers, while the others presented posters. All presentations were on oral cancer and its pathogenesis and mechanisms of metastasis.
Ms. Johana Elizabeth John secured the first prize for her paper titled, “Metastatic Tumors to the Oral Cavity”. In this paper, Johana presented the various neoplasms that were likely to metastatize to the oral cavity from primary sites elsewhere in the body.
Ms. Aiswarya P, won the first prize for her presentation titled,”Chemiluminescence in Diagnosis of Oral Cancer”. Here, she highlighted a novel diagnostic method and its practical application in the diagnosis of oral cancer.
All the students were guided by the faculty team, Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology, Amrita School of Dentistry.
