A colloquium on the topic ‘Leadership in Digital World’ was held at Sri Krishna Hall of Amrita School of Business, Coimbatore, on October 26, 2018 . Ms. Usha Raghunath, who heads the People and Organizational Transformation Practice at Innomantra, handled the session.
She started the session by her first topic- ‘Talking Without Connect Is Useless’. She said the first and foremost mantra to hone leadership skills in modern world is – managing self & task.
Ms. Raghunath urged the students to be proactive. Be the first to choose, decide & accept. She added, “Proactive helps us in self-managing as following ones instructions always places us in the back seat. Leadership is not all about thinking; it is about action too, because action creates thought.” She further explained, “The second step that follows managing self is managing a small group of people; people place their trust in us by observing how we manage ourselves. The third step is to manage people whom we never meet.”
She said that the current problem with the leadership in Indian firms in modern times is that the leaders are not welcoming the latest skillset, trying to circumvent the changing trends and wanting to stick to the conventional times.
Ms. Usha Raghunath explained the trick of managing self,what to take in and what to emit. She encouraged the students to accept the wierdness of being distinguishable from otherss. She said, ”Celebrate your weirdness, accept it with glee”. At the end, she urged the students to innovate, experiment, reiterate in the digital world.
