Department of Physiology, Amrita School of Medicine, Kochi Campus organized a CME on the topic “PressurEX-Exploring the mysteries of Hypertension” Hypertension is a silent killer which goes many a times unnoticed and unattended. It can affect any part of the human body more commonly the brain and heart. This CME was aimed at sensitizing the audience to the newer classification, management modalities and the role played by genes, gut & nutrition in hypertension.
CME 2025 program was inaugurated by Sampoojya Swami Poornamritanandapuri, General Secretary, Mata Amritanandamayi Mission Trust, by lighting the lamp & giving an enlightening benedictory address. Dr. Saraswathy L., Professor & Head of Department of Physiology, Amrita School of Medicine welcomed the gathering and gave a brief introduction to the topic.
This was followed by lighting the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries and Guest Faculty. Dr. Prem Nair, Group Medical Director and Provost, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, delivered the Presidential address. Dr. Anand Kumar, Vice Principal, Amrita School of Medicine and Head of Department of Neurology, AIMS offered felicitations. Winners and final round participants of Physiology Quiz conducted for MBBS 2023 Batch were awarded books and certificates. Dr. Suja Gopalakrishnan, Professor of Physiology gave the vote of thanks.
The scientific sessions were chaired by Dr. K. P. Kalyanikutty (Professor & HOD, Dept. Physiology, MES, Medical College, Perinthalmanna), Dr. Mary Chacko (HOD & Professor, Dept. of Physiology, Al Azhar Medical College), Dr. Lakshmi G. (Professor & HOD, Dept of Physiology, Govt Medical College,TVM) and Dr. Gino Abraham (Prof & HOD, Physiology, Govt Medical College, Kottayam). Delegates included around 223 Medical Faculty & postgraduate students from Medical Colleges all over Kerala.
The first session was by Dr. Vasanth P. K. (Professor, Dept of Internal Medicine, AIMS, Kochi) on newer classification of Hypertension and management. Dr. Saritha Shenoy (Professor, Dept. Of Physiology, Government Medical College, Kottayam) talked about Nutrigenomics, followed by a talk by Dr. Tittu Oommen (Consultant Endocrinologist, Providence Endocrine & Diabetes Speciality Center, TVM). Sir spoke with elan on Secondary Hypertension with special emphasis on endocrine causes. The last topic was “DASH, Telemonitoring and Lifestyle” by Dr. Saritha Sekhar, (Asso Prof, Dept. of Cardiology)
