Bhoutika, the association of the Department of Physics, Amrita School of Arts and Sciences (ASAS), Amritapuri, was inaugurated by Dr. Indulekha, Head, School of Physics, M. G. University, on October 17, 2017.
The function started by invoking the blessings of Her holiness Mata Amritanandamayi, Amma, and lighting the lamp. Dr. Narayanankutty Karuppath, Department of Physics, Amrita School of Arts and Sciences (ASAS), Amritapuri, gave the welcome speech which was followed by felicitations by Dr. Balakrishnan Shankar, Associate Dean, Amrita School of Engineering, Amritapuri, and Dr. V. M. Nandakumaran , Principal, School of Arts and Sciences, Amritapuri.
The chief guest inaugurated Bhoutika by electronically unveiling the logo of the physics association.. Dr. Indulekha then gave an inaugural talk on “Physics- Exploring the Common and the Uncommon”, highlighting the span and the subtlety of physics, including concepts of space and time. Mr. Sarath Kumar, 4th year, Integrated MSc student and Secretary of the Association, delivered the vote of thanks.
The association aims to encourage interest and exploration of physics. The association is planning various activities like Wednesday colloquiums, wherein eminent invited speakers, as well as Amrita faculty, research scholars and students can give talks and participate. Bhautika is also planning video presentations and to conduct various competitions related to physics. Celebrating various events like the birthdays of celebrities in physics, commemorating great achievements, including Nobel Prizes, field trips, workshops, exhibitions and sky observations are being planned.
