The Computer Society of India (CSI) Student Branch of Amrita School of Engineering (ASE), Coimbatore, has been adjudged as best CSI Student Branch in India for the fifth consecutive year. This is a significant achievement, considering the fact that there are more than 600 colleges and universities in India with CSI student Chapters, including reputed institutions such as NITs at Surathkal, Kozhikode, Jamshedpur, Anna University, VIT and SRM.
The student branch, which is hosted by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), was recognized for its successful conduct of several co-curricular activities and also for supporting the CSE department in organizing conferences, workshops and contests, such as International Conference on Interdisciplinary Advances in Advanced Computing (ICONIAAC) 2014 and National Workshop on Computer Vision, Image Processing and Data Analytics 2014.
Eminent speakers who have addressed the various events organized by the student branch included Dr. Prabhakar Mateti, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Wright State University, USA; Dr. C.R. Muthukrishnan, Former Deputy Director, IIT Madras and President, Computer Society of India (CSI); Dr. Masahiro Fujita, Professor at University of Tokyo; Mr. Apurba Das, Solution Architect, Image Processing group, Tata Consultancy Services Innovation Labs, Bangalore and Dr. Krishnan Kutty, Associate Technical Fellow for the Systems Engineering team at KPIT Cummins.
