Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien (WU-Wien) is the largest university in Europe for business administration and economics. Known also as the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration, it has been home to Dr. Biresh Sahoo from the Amrita School of Business for nearly nine months now.
Dr. Sahoo is Professor of Economics at the Amrita School of Business. He has taught classes in core subjects such as Microeconomics and Macroeconomics to MBA students as well as offered elective courses in subjects such as Econometrics. Earlier this year, he was awarded a prestigious postdoctoral fellowship by the Department of Economics at Vienna University. He is due to complete his research work there and return to Amrita early next year.
“The recently signed Eureca agreement will enable many faculty members from our schools to conduct top quality research at the best universities in Europe,” states Dr. Venkat Rangan, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s Vice-Chancellor. “We are fortunate that the Amrita School of Business is taking a lead role in this regard. Just like Dr. Sahoo, we expect that many others will avail the opportunities available.”
Prior to this assignment, Dr. Sahoo served as visiting scholar at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies in Japan. “We encourage faculty members to gain international experience. This helps bring a truly global perspective to their teaching,” remarks Dr. Banerjee, Dean of Amrita School of Business. Indeed, MBA students do appreciate this advantage that Amrita provides.
After his return, Dr. Sahoo will continue to teach and do research at Amrita. Students may expect a new elective offering from him in Efficiency and Productivity Analysis using DEA, a course he already taught to students at WU-Wien in Austria. His research project titled “Extended DEA Models for Scale Economies and Eco-efficiency” is scheduled to be completed in February 2009.
