Having won a multi-million European-funded research project and in order to spend more time focusing on research and teaching, Dr. Amalendu Jyothishi, Professor and Chairman, Amrita School of Business (ASB) Ph.D. program has decided to step down from his responsibilities as the Chairman of the program. However, he will continue his association with ASB as a Professor.
Dr. Jyothishi has steered ASB through times of success from the early days of the Ph.D. program. The number of scholars in the Ph.D. program has increased from 8 to 52, with 17 of them completing their coursework, and 6 of them completing their proposal defense. In this 7th year of the Ph.D. admissions, 12 new scholars have joined for the program, among which four are full-time Ph.D. students. 2016 was the first year of starting the full-time Ph.D. program. In last six years, the program not only has grown in magnitude, but also in our quality delivery. Dr. Jyothishi was instrumental in bringing excellent faculty resources to teach at the Ph.D. level, redesigning the research methodology course, and importantly, bringing international exposure for the scholars by way of a seminar series.
Dr. Jyothishi has passed on the baton to ASB Coimbatore faculty member, Dr. Deepak Gupta, Professor. Dr. Gupta has been researching and teaching at ASB for past 10 years. He is a core member of the marketing area. Currently, he teaches for both the MBA and Ph.D. programs. Before joining ASB, he had more than 10 years of combined teaching and research experience at the University of California, Berkeley. He received his Master’s degrees in Economics, Marketing Science, and an interdisciplinary Ph. D. in Economics, Sociology, and Education from UC Berkeley. His publications include papers in international journals includingTransportation Research Record and International Higher Education.
