ASB Coimbatore Summer Placements 2016: Manufacturing Firms Lead, Nine International Placements in Africa and Sri Lanka

Amrita School of Business, Coimbatore (ASBC) completed summer placements for its entire batch of 128 students of the Class of 2017, with manufacturing firms hiring the largest number of students.

ASB also saw two international companies, ECom Agroindustrial Corp. from Africa and Metropolitan Lanka Hotels from Sri Lanka, hiring interns. The leading global commodity merchant and sustainable supply chain management company, ECOM, located in Ghana, Africa, selected four students: Sneha G., Ajay R. Krishnan, Govind Krishnan and Sivaprasad from the Class of 2017 to intern as management trainees under the marketing domain.

A hospitality service provider, Metropolitan Lanka Hotels based in Sri Lanka, selected six students from the campus for training in Marketing. Five students: Arya, Apurv, Rahul H. V., Murali Krishna and Arjun Shaji accepted the offer.

Summer placements for 2016 saw 60 firms hiring students, who will spend eight to ten weeks in the companies and may eventually be offered jobs, even before the final placement.

“The summer placement of the Class of 2015-17 witnessed a remarkable improvement in the number of first-time recruiters, job profiles, stipend, and locations. This year’s summer placements is a testimonial to the faith in ASB’s course pedagogy and the quality of students,” said Placement Chair Prof. Gopakumar. V.

In terms of specializations, 26.56% students chose Marketing, 25% students opted Finance, and 23.43% students preferred Operations. 3.90% of students chose to intern in a new specialization, Business Analytics.

Among the companies, 27% of offers came from manufacturing firms, 16% of offers came from the banking and financial services sector and 13% of offers came from the IT-enabled services sector. The top companies that made multiple offers include: Roots Industries India Limited, Tata Steel, CMA CGM, Daimler, Bradken, Dhanlaxmi Bank, Godrej, L&T, PCS, Philips, ProcessBee and ZF Wind Power. Interestingly, start-ups companies too offered summer placements to students.

The summer placements were jointly carried out by Corporate Industry Relations of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and Student-Faculty Placement Committee (a.k.a. Placecom) of ASB.
