A colloquium on the topic ‘Transforming B-School Graduates to Corporate Gurus’ was held at the Sri Krishna Hall of School of Business, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, on January 10, 2019. The session was handled by Mr. Sekhar Josyula, Managing Director of Accenture. He spoke about his life experiences, his studies and professional career and opened up the session for a question answer session.
In his presentation, Mr. Josyula stressed: Jobs aren’t disappearing, but are changing according to the context. He emphasized this concept and asked the audience to notice that the change in jobs is not a quantum leap but a quasi-static process where a substantial change can be identified once in a decade. He asked the audience/students to keep up-skilling themselves and match the pace of the growth to stay in sync with it.
When asked what the corporate world is seeking in the students of B-school, he said that, “Corporates seek to evaluate the candidates on the basis of their knowledge in the subject and their ability to apply it. One can’t crack an interview by merely possessing the ability to present formulae and calculations in examinations. We need to talk beyond those formulae and calculations.” Mr. Sekhar asked the students to recognize their penchant and forte; by recognizing it asap, one could visualize his career with clarity and could move himself in that direction instead of ambiguous wandering amid domains and specializations.
