The School of Arts and Sciences, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kochi campus,celebrated Sanskrit Day and Onam on August 31, 2017. The two-fold celebration started with the lighting of the lamp accompanied by the Sopana Sangeetham by Shyam Krishnan. Dr. U. Krishnakumar welcomed the gathering. Describing the language as the foundation of Sanatana Dharma he highlighted the importance of Sanskrit. Brahmachari Anaghamrita Chaitanya blessed the event. Prof. A. Subramonia Iyer, an erudite scholar and an eminent academician was the Chief Guest. In his inaugural address he emphasized the all – encompassing value of Sanskrit, the Devabhasha, which is the language of knowledge and whose Literature conveyed themessage of universal harmony. The inaugural address was followed by a Vanchipattu extolling the might of the Language. Prof. Iyer gifted a book ‘Bharathadarshanam’ to the College. The formal function concluded with the vote of thanks by Smt. Sreedevi O.S. Faculty in Sanskrit. This was followed by a short skit based on the story of King Mahabali in whose honor Onam is celebrated. The enthusiastic and energetic performance of pulikali provided a fitting finale to the event.
