The significance of the Ramayana was emphasized in the celebrations held in the college auditorium of School of Arts and Sciences, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kochi campus, on August 11, 2017. The program began with the Sopana Sangeetham by Shyam Krishnan and the lighting of the Lamp by Pujaneeya Swami Purnamritananda Puri. The welcome address by Dr. U. Krishnakumar also brought out the connection between the story of Sree Rama and the Cultural Heritage of the Nation. Swamiji gave the gist of the message of the Ramayana which contrasted materialism with spirituality and the superiority of the latter as exemplified by the life of Sree Rama. A record number of students participated in the Quiz competition held a couple of days ago and the Ramayanaparayanam competitions held during the celebrations. The solemn ceremony of Raksha bhandan was followed by the prize distribution to the winners of the Quiz and the Ramayanaparayanam competitions.
