Amrita School of Dentistry, Kochi
The 17th, 18th and 19th of November, 2009 saw the Amrita School of Dentistry emerge with a dazzling display of talent. Arts Fest Tarang 09 – Beyond The Horizon, organized in the college auditorium, brought together students of all batches.
The celebrations were blessed with the presence of the students’ beloved Sampoojya Swami Poornamritananda Puri. “The arts are a reflection of the divine,” Swamiji told the gathered students.
The dynamic and young Malayalam music director Rahul Raj of the Lokah Samasthah fame inaugurated the Fest. Now a movie music director, Rahul has several top movies to his credit such as Chota Mumbai and Ritu.
Essay, short story, poetry, creative writing competitions or Krithi Tarang, eastern music (group and solo) and instrumental music or Swara Tarang, painting and sketching contests or Kala Tarang marked the following two days.
Students also participated in Bhava Tarang, a variety show with adzap, mime and acting on the spot, Natya Tarang with group and solo dances and Vachya Tarang with extempore, recitation and kathaprasangam competitions.
A unique video presentation put together by the students proved to be a memorable highlight. The journey of talent at the Amrita School of Dentistry from Marmaram ’05 to Expressions ’06 through Sanskriti ’07 to Ignite ’08, and finally the dawn of Tarang ‘09 – this was a visual of priceless memories set to captivating music.
Other highlights included the Tarang Delights Food Corner and the Tarang Handicraft Stall, both of which drew students and staff in large numbers and proved to be highly lucrative ventures. The closing ceremony on the 19th evening saw all prize winners being honored.
The overall championship was claimed by the host batch 2007, which had also organized the Arts Fest. Rakesh Rajeevan Nair and Sreejith Satyan of this batch were both honored as Kalapratibha and their class-mate Anjana Ramanathan as Kalathilakam. The newly instituted awards for Promising Superstar went to Mithul Subi of the 2008 batch and Noora Begum of the 2009 batch.
