After the many laurels won by the IEEE Student Chapter at the Amritapuri campus, it was the turn of the Chapter at the Coimbatore campus to receive accolades.
The Chapter was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for organizing the maximum number of events during 2011.
The faculty mentor of the Chapter, Mr. C. Arunkumar, Assistant Professor, was felicitated with an Award of Appreciation for enrolling 10,000 student members during the same period.
Both awards were received during the Annual General Body Meeting of the IEEE in Chennai on February 11, 2012.
“During the year, we organized technical fests, seminars on global challenges in software, workshops on research issues in image processing and soft computing and a poster design contest using photoshop software,” student members shared.
“We also held programming contests of which one a 24-hour contest wherein students competed against each other to solve a set of programming problems,” they added.
The Chapter celebrated IEEE Day on October 7, 2011. Student members visited a local school in Ettimadai village as part of their social development program. A quiz competition was also organized on recent technological developments.
At the Annual General Body Meeting of the IEEE in Chennai, Mr. C. Arunkumar was also nominated as an Executive Committee Member for the year 2012-2013.
“My duties will include ensuring information transmission from IEEE Headquarters to student officers, attending executive and regional activity committee meetings, assisting branch committees, consulting with section chairs, regional chairs or directors for matters related to student activities, fostering good relations with the local section, establishing industrial liaisons to support student branch programs and activities, promoting student awareness of contests and benefits of membership,” he informed.
“We are grateful to have had the support of Prof. K. Gangadharan for conducting all the events during 2011,” stated Mr. Arunkumar.
“We are also grateful for the support of student members of ACM, CSI and IETE Chapters of Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore,” he added.
