During the 7th Annual Day celebrations of the Amrita School of Education on December 10, 2011, Prof. Susheela Seshadri, Principal, presented the annual report for the School. Given below, are excerpts from the report.
With immense pleasure, I present before you the report of activities of the School of Education for the year 2010-11.

This batch of students entered this temple of learning on 19th January, 2011, with excitement, optimism and aspiration. Academic activities began the next day.

On Talents Day (28th January), students exhibited their talents through a very colourful and value-based programme. On Amritians Day (29th January), the campus organised a get-together and lunch for our alumni; this was very well attended.

A Students Association was constituted on 31st January. The batch of 100 students was divided into five houses.

During Amma’s visit in February, the student trainee teachers and all faculty of the School of Education rendered their enthusiastic services as volunteers. They helped with site decorations, arranging stalls, cutting vegetables, ensuring adequate supply of water, controlling the queues and issue of tokens for various poojas. Cleanliness was given prime importance.

Annual Report

Science Week was celebrated during February 28 – March 5. Members of Science Club conducted a house-wise quiz competition as well as organized a simple science exhibition. Many participated in a one-day visit to Sachidananda Ashram, Milk Dairy and National Museum, Mysore.

On 25th March, faculty members, participated in an elaborate meeting and discussion regarding Choice-Based Credit System at Ramakrishna Institute of Moral and Spiritual Education, Mysore. This system will be introduced in the Amrita School of Education in the next academic year.

On 2nd April, our teacher trainees participated in inter-B.Ed. college competitions conducted by Vatsalya College of Education, Mysore. Shri. Kumar H.C. won first prize in Geetha Gayana, Shri. Abhishek M. N., won second prize in quiz and Smt. Savitha V.H. won the third prize in Pick ’n Speak.

The month of the April also saw the launching of the microteaching project which prepares trainees to individually excel in teaching skills. This is a significant phase of the B.Ed. program and involves the rendering of integrated lessons to live audiences.

As part teacher development, on 30th April, Dr. Gururaj Karajagi, Chairman, Academy for Creative Teaching, Bangalore, led a state-level workshop for 30 + participants at the Amrita campus. The feedback received was very encouraging.

On 15th June, student trainees were sent to different schools in Mysore for Practice-in-Teaching, for a period of 45 days which was followed by criticism lessons and practical examinations in August.

Teachers’ Day was celebrated by student trainees in a grand manner on September 5th, involving the teacher educators in fun games and felicitating them.

The Cultural Committee made arrangements for a Cultural Fest during October 13-15. Students from all five houses actively participated in various competitions. Judges came from many esteemed institutions.

Annual DayAnnual Sports Meet was conducted on the Amrita grounds on 22nd October. Student trainees competed in both indoor and outdoor sports including chess, caroms, track races, shot-put, discus throw, long jump, cricket, volley ball, throw ball and the enjoyable tug-of-war.

All student trainees accompanied by the principal and faculty members went on a memorable one-day trip to Somanathapura, Muduthore, Talakadu and Shivanasamudra on 29th October.

Getting ready for the final examinations, the trainees wrote the preparatory examinations in November. The degree exams of the institution were conducted from 28th of November to 7th of December.

Now our student trainees are almost full-fledged teachers, ready to serve in the country’s educational institutions, where they will help prepare well-balanced citizens of the nation.
