In keeping with the institution’s aim to provide students with ample opportunities for learning experiences within course requirements as well as outside the confines of the syllabus, the department of Visual Communication of School of Arts and Sciences, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Mysuru campus, organized a two-day animation workshop ‘Animate’, from November 2-3, 2018, at its premises. Mr. Prosenjit Ganguly, the highly talented and renowned animation film designer was the resource person at the workshop.
Mr. Ganguly addressed the audience and spoke at length about animation in general, his professional experiences as well as career opportunities in the media field. He incited a lot of interest in the students about animation and animation- filmmaking, and encouraged everyone to take up various creative pursuits.
The post-lunch session and day 2 session were organized for the 30 students who had specifically registered for the workshop, where they learnt about the basic elements of animation, its origin and scope. Several animated movies were screened to give them a real-time experience. Mr. Ganguly shared a lot of his own insights about the animation industry, several animation techniques and design principles, the various types of animation, such as 2D-animation, Clay animation, etc., and screened a couple of relevant animation films for the students to get a first-hand idea.
The session included a live demonstration of Stop-motion animation, while elaborating on the software and techniques involved in it. With this, the students were formed into teams and assigned the task of making their own short animated clips using the techniques he demonstrated, within a specific time-limit. After a session which was fun filled and content packed, each of the teams came up with wonderful short animation clips which showed their creativity and innovation, and were highly appreciated by Mr. Ganguly.
