The technical team at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi campus, has come up with a jugaad for a low-cost face visor for medical professionals which is faster to produce than what is currently being produced. The shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) available to medical professionals has become a priority as COVID-19 cases continue to surge. With the safety concerns of doctors, nurses, and their patients during this crisis in mind, the Amrita team of technicians are working on models and prototypes of quickly produced, disposable face shields/visors that will be needed nationwide during these crucial times.
Face visors can provide a layer of protection covering masks and the majority of the face. Amrita’s face visors are made of low-cost clear materials and have a shape similar to a welder’s mask. This face visor can protect health care professionals and their masks from coming in direct contact with virus particles spread through coughing or sneezing.
This thirty-second face visor model is also being extended for better safety at our Amrita Hospital.
