The Second Inter Campus Volleyball Tournament is scheduled for the 9th and 10th of January, 2009 at the Amritapuri Campus. Teams from all 5 campuses will participate. They are expected to arrive on Thursday, January 8th, and compete over the following two days. The winning team(s) will be felicitated in a function after the tournament.
 
“Last year, for the first time, an inter-campus volleyball tournament was organized at the Mysore Campus,” stated Mr. S. Krishnakumar of the Department of Physical Education, Amritapuri Campus. “The response from all campuses was tremendous. The boys’ championship was won by the team from Coimbatore. The Bangalore girls team won the girls title.”
 
Volleyball, as a sport, has been played for over a century now. Said to have originated in the US in the late 1800s, it is also one of the Olympic team sports. In India, it is popular among educational institutions. The Armed Forces and the Police also organize annual volleyball tournaments. 6 players in a team compete against 6 other players on the opposing team. We wish all the Amrita teams the very best!
