The Computer Society of India (CSI) branch of Amrita School of Engineering (ASE), Coimbatore, which is hosted by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), has set a unique national record by securing the ‘Best Accredited CSI Student Branch in India‘ award for the seventh consecutive year. Additionally, for the second successive year, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham emerged as the top university in the CSI Convention with 10 awards for its faculty, students and student branches in Kochi, Coimbatore, Bangalore and Mysore campuses.
Prof. Mike Hinchey, Former Softwar Engineering Lab Director at NASA Goddard Space Center & President, International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP), a global ICT organization founded by UNESCO, felicitated this outstanding achievement of CSE @ AMRITA represented by Prof. Prashant R. Nair, Vice-Chairman, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, at the CSI Annual Convention held at Science City, Kolkata, from January 19- 21 , 2018. Prof. Prashant R. Nair is also the national editor of CSI.
No other university or institution can boast of such an honor of winning the title for seven consecutive years. Considering the fact that there are over 1000 CSI student branches and institutional members in universities and colleges all over India, this consistent performance speaks volumes of the quality, innovation, impact and societal relevance of various technical and professional activities of the CSE department and its CSI Student branch.
Dr. Latha Parameswaran, Chairperson, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, said, “CSE department has several clubs and professional body student chapters for student co-curricular engagement such as ASCII departmental association, FOSS club, Tech{Know}ledgy club, ACM student branch and the award-winning CSI student branch, all of which work in tandem to organize various events for students such as International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC), tech talks, workshops, hackathons appathons and as well as engage in community engagement. These student chapters and clubs also support our departmental initiatives like Women in Computing and international conferences and workshops. Mrs. U.M. Ramya, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, is the Student Branch Counselor (SBC) for the CSI student branch.”
