India’s first and largest professional body for IT professionals, Computer Society of India (CSI), announced that Amrita University’s indigenously developed e-learning platform, A-VIEW (Amrita Virtual Interactive E-Learning World) has won the Computer Society of India (CSI) Innovation Award 2014 at the 49th annual convention of CSI at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) held December 12, 2014 in Hyderabad. This is the third year running that Amrita has been recognized for its excellence by the Computer Society of India.
The CSI award committee was chaired by Dr. S.V. Raghavan, Chief Architect of India’s National Knowledge Network (NKN) and Scientific Secretary to the Government of India. The award was presented by Mr. H.R. Mohan, President of CSI in the presence of national office bearers of CSI.
In 2013, AMRITA CREATE won the top prize in IT Excellence award for OLabs in the Education & E-learning Products & Solutions category. In the same category, AMMACHI Labs secured the IT Excellence Appreciation award for its technology innovations aimed at women empowerment. Other winners in various categories includes leading corporates like Tata Motors, Schneider Electric, BPCL, IBM, Reliance, Tech Mahindra, BHEL etc.
In 2012, Amrita Hospital Information System was awarded in the IT excellence award in the Healthcare category.
The path-breaking product from Amrita University’s center of research and excellence Amrita E-learning Research Labs, A-VIEW (Amrita Virtual Interactive e-Learning World) is now deployed in 6000 college and universities in India, has been conferred this award. This recognition to A-VIEW is yet another addition to its long list of recognitions and achievements which include being recognized along Aadhar UID projects by Cisco in their world-wide list of global Internet innovations and initiatives.
A-VIEW is an indigenously built multi-modal, multimedia e-learning platform that provides an immersive e-learning experience that is almost as good as a real classroom experience. The e-learning Research Lab address the most pressing issue of higher education in India– the shortage of highly qualified teachers. A-VIEW is part of Talk to a Teacher program coordinated by IIT Bombay and are funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) under the Indian Government’s National Mission for Education using Information and Communication Technology (NME-ICT) along with various other projects in Virtual Labs, Haptics and Natural Language Processing. A-VIEW is now deployed at several IITs, NITs and other leading educational institutions across the nation.
