ViswaSanthi, a non-profit organisation established by Actor Mohanlal in the name of his parents, has launched the ‘Amrita-ViswaSanthi Health Care Project’ on August 5, 2019. The project, in association with Amrita Hospital, will bear the entire expense of the heart surgeries of children under the age of 18 years belonging to socio–economically backward sections.
It was inaugurated by Shri Mohanlal on the occasion of his mother’s birthday at a function held at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi. The first beneficiary of the Scheme, a 5 year old girl named Simran, along with her family members from Bihar, were also present at the function.
Speaking on the occasion Shri Mohanlal said that ViswaSanthi Foundation was formed to support those poor sections of the society. Last year the foundation distributed about ₹2 crores of financial aid in Kerala. In associating with Amrita Hospital, the foundation is now planning to reach out to other states as well. This noble endeavour meets all the heart surgery requirements of children of those sections even in far off states like Uttar Pradesh, Jammu Kashmir, Lakshadweep, Bihar, etc.
Present on the occasion were Shri. P. E. B. Menon (Managing Director, ViswaSanthi Foundation), Major Ravi (Director, ViswaSanthi Foundation), Dr. Damodaran Vasudevan (Director, ViswaSanthi Foundation), Dr. Prem Nair (Medical Director, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences), Sri. Suresh Idamannel, Swami Turiyamritananda Puri, and Dr. R. Krishna Kumar (Head of Paediatric Cardiology, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences).
