Researchers from Amrita School of Biotechnology presented posters at the XXXIX All India Cell Biology Conference, organized jointly by Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) and Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB), Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, from December 6-8, 2015.
The conference had selected eight research students from Amrita School of Biotechnology to participate in the event. The three day conference themed around the topic ‘Cellular Organization and Dynamics’ was mainly focused on cellular interactions and dynamic properties of cells in a range of biological systems.
The conference brought together experts from various key areas of cell biology from leading research institutes in India and overseas. Dr. Apurva Sarin from National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Bangalore, Dr.Jyotsna Dhawan from CSIR-Centre for Cellular & Molecular Biology (CCMB), Professor V. Nagaraja from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and Dr. Carl-Philipp Heisenberg from IST Austria are a few to name from the impressive list of speakers.
The poster presentation session, that included several national and international participants, was enriched with young researchers with inventive vision. Among the several abstracts submitted, 160 were accepted and among them seven were from Amrita School of Biotechnology. Dr. Athira Omanakuttan, Ms. Jyotsna Nambiar, Mr. Damu S., Mr. Sanu K. Shaji, Ms. Drishya Gopakumar, Ms. Chandni P., Ms. Divya Nedungadiand Ms. Anupama Binoy presented Cell Biology, Sanitation Biotechnology & Cancer Biology research works of Amrita during the conference with the core theme of identification and characterization of Natural Product Lead molecules and understanding their role in Regulating Matrix Metalloproteinases and several pathways modulating cell death.
