Prashanth Mohanasundaram of the department of Mechanical Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, was the winner of the coveted TCS Best Student Award for the year 2016 and he secured this prize wining over eleven other nominations. He was awarded a Gold Medal, a certificate and cash prize at the function held on 22nd April, 2016, in the Muralikrishna Auditorium of CIR, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.
K. Gopakumar, Consultant from the Banking and Financial Services unit of TCS was the chief guest. The function started with the welcome address by Mr. N. R. Mohanan Sr. GM, Career Development, CIR, who also briefed on the selection procedure used to chose the best student. Prof. C. Parameswaran, Director CIR, delivered the keynote address highlighting the similarity in the ultimate objectives of Tata Group and Amrita, namely service to humanity. Dr. S Thirumalini, Chairperson, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, mentioned that this award is very important to the Department and stressed the importance self effort to achieve success in one’s endeavors.
This was followed by the address by the chief guest K. Gopakumar who explained that information technology has its footprint in all fields of engineering, boundaries between the departments are vanishing and problems are being solved in an interdisciplinary manner. He also discussed IoT, the challenges in card business of banking and financial services and how critical security is in the world of Information Technology. He answered a few questions from faculty and students.
The function was attended by nearly hundred students, senior faculty members of the department of Mechanical Engineering and faculty members of CIR Department. Wing Commander A Balachandran, Sr.GM Corporate Relations CIR, thanked the chief guest and others.
