Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham secured top honours in Computer Society of India (CSI) Annual Convention 2017, for the second consecutive year, held at Science City, Kolkata from 19 to 21 January, 2018. Amrita received 10 national awards from CSI, more than any other university or institution in India.
Amrita Schools of Engineering (ASE) at Coimbatore and Bengaluru campuses and Amrita School of Arts and Sciences (ASAS) at Kochi and Mysuru campuses, were awarded the Best Accredited CSI Student Branch award.The awards were received by Dr. U. Krishnakumar, Director, School of Arts and Sciences, Kochi, and Prof. Prashant R. Nair, Vice Chairperson, Computer Science, School of Engineering, Coimbatore, from the CSI National office bearers on 21st January, 2018.
The CSI branch of Coimbatore Campus hosted by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, has set a unique national record of securing this recognition for the 7th consecutive year. The Amrita School of Arts and Sciences, Kochi Campus, has also received another achievement with 7 awards in various categories, including Best Newsletter, Significant Contribution award to CSI, Active Student and Women members. The award winners included Dr. U. Krishnakumar; Maya L. Pai, Head of Department, Mathematics, School of Arts and Sciences, Kochi; A. G. Hari Narayanan, Assistant Professor, Computer Science, School of Arts and Sciences, Kochi; L. Nitha, Assistant Professor, Computer Science, School of Arts and Sciences, Kochi and Mr. Mohamed Shabeer KP, 2nd year Integrated MCA student, Kochi. The Kochi campus also won its 3rd consecutive best CSI student branch award .
“The best CSI branch is given to the top 50 institutions considering the quality, innovation, impact and societal relevance of various technical and professional activities such as conferences, contests, workshops, hackathons and community engagement. This is a singular achievement considering the fact that there are CSI student branches and institutional members in over 1000 universities and colleges all over India. Our pro-active engagement and collaboration with Computer Society of India (CSI) has resulted in 30+ awards to our faculty, students, CSE departments, student branches as well as research innovations such as A-VIEW, OLabs and Amrita Hospital Information System (HIS). We have also used CSI Communications, the mouthpiece of CSI, with a circulation of over 150,000 for showcasing our research innovations for societal benefit such as Virtual Labs, MedSim and A-VIEW,” said Prof. Prashant.
