Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham was represented in a distinguished panel of the prestigious 18th FICCI Higher Education Summit 2023 held at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi, on 30 November, 2023. Dr. Raghu Raman, Dean, School of Business, and Director, CREATE, represented AMRITA in a panel discussion themed, ‘Empowering Excellence: The Role of Quality Assurance, Accreditation & Benchmarking in Higher Education’ of the summit. Other eminent panelists included Mr. Mathew Johnston, Minister-Counselor (Education & Research), Australian Government Department of Education, Australian High Commission, New Delhi; Dr. Pankaj Mittal, Secretary General, Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and Dr. Ashwin Fernandes, Regional Director for Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) rankings. During the panel, Dr. Raghu Raman stressed the need for ranking systems to include parameters related to societal impact and highlighted the following quote from Chancellor AMMA’s address at the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) conference.
“Today, universities and their researchers are ranked mainly based on the amount of funding they receive, the number of papers they publish, and their intellectual caliber, but along with this, we should take into consideration how much we have been able to use their research to serve the lowest and most vulnerable strata of society”.
Ambedkar International Centre. The theme of the two-day summit, which commenced on 29 November 2023 and was organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), was ‘Empowering Minds, Driving Transformation: Redefining the Future of Higher Education. 400+ senior administrators of various premier higher educational institutions in India participated in the summit, which was inaugurated by Mr. B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, CEO, NITI Aayog, and keynoted by Mr. K. Sanjay Murthy, Secretary (Higher Education), Ministry of Education, Government of India.
