Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham was represented at VegMed 2016, held at the campus of Freie Universität, Berlin, Germany from the 22nd to 24th of April, 2016. Dr. P. Ram Manohar, Research Director at Amrita School of Ayurveda delivered a Key Note Lecture on Vegetarian Nutrition in Ayurveda and also chaired a session on Vegetarian Nutrition in Traditional Medicine.
VegMed is a unique European international scientific conference on medicine and vegetarian nutrition. VegMed is aimed at physicians, medical students and scientists as well as nutritionists and related disciplines. Persons in academic healthcare professions also were invited. More than 800 participants attended VegMed at Freie Universität in Berlin. In addition to scientific presentations, an accompanying program was offered at the conference, including practice-oriented workshops and a platform for professional networking. The congress was convened by a reputable consortium of the Charité Medical University, the Immanuel Hospital Group and the German Vegetarian Union (VEBU) along with a number of affiliated high profile partner institutions.
VegMed 2016´s mission is to foster the development of new collaborative global activities in this area and to establish networks in order to strengthen existing international partnerships within the field of plant-based nutrition research and practice. The congress included original research through keynote addresses, sessions, poster presentations, in-conference workshops, debates and panel discussions.
The proceedings of the conference have been published in a peer-reviewed journal.
The latest issue of Forschende Komplementarmedizin/Research in Complementary Medicine focuses on the topic “VegMed – Scientific Congress for Vegetarian Nutrition and Medicine”. This issue carries a research paper on Vegetarian Nutrition authored by Dr. P. Ram Manohar, Research Director for Ayurveda at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.
