Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s flagship E-Learning Platform A-VIEW has been hailed as one of the world’s most important internet innovations by Cisco, the worldwide leader in networking and internet applications. Cisco identified and profiled the 40 best global public-sector examples of how the Internet of Everything is improving the lives of citizens everywhere. Amrita’s A-VIEW platform, supported by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), and the Government of India’s Aadhar UID projects are the only two projects from India finding a place in this world-wide list of novel initiatives. Cisco estimates the opportunity in internet-based initiatives for the global public sector at $4.6 trillion (Rs. 280 lac crores) over the next decade.
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is working on several internet-based research and development projects. A-VIEW (Amrita Virtual Interactive E-Learning World) is an award winning e-learning platform that seeks to redefine the dissemination of classroom instruction. It is the preferred national platform of the Ministry of Human Resources Development, and has been successfully implemented in the field of higher education.
Prof. Kamal Bijlani, the architect of the A-VIEW project remarked, “It brings immense satisfaction to know that A-VIEW brings education to the doorstep all over India. For a huge population like ours, it is essential to invest in internet-based technologies.”
A-VIEW presently connects 4700 colleges in the country and has already clocked over 77 lakh student hours in a variety of programs. Amrita is partnering closely with premier institutes such as IIT-Bombay, IIT-Madras, IIT-Kharagpur, Mumbai University, JNTU Hyderabad, IIRS Dehradaun and several others. Using A-VIEW, these institutions have reached out to tens of thousands of teachers and students across the country. The T10kT ( 10,000 Teachers at a Time ) program under Prof. Deepak Phatak uses A-VIEW to conduct workshops for empowering 10,000 teachers.
“With Amrita’s support, we have reached this achievement of teaching more than 10,000 teachers across hundreds of centers. This has also successfully proven that A-VIEW is scalable,” noted Prof. Deepak Phatak, IIT-Bombay.
A-VIEW has been designed for online meetings, classes, workshops and conferences. The A-VIEW platform has enormous potential for India and the world. It can be used for the India’s education, skill-based training, and online meetings. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s A-VIEW is a major project of the National Mission on Education via Information and Communications Technology (NME-ICT), currently being led by Shri Praveen Prakash, Mission Director. A-VIEW is being provided totally free of charge, and will soon be available as an open-source project for the benefit of all.
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s Vice-Chancellor Dr. P. Venkat Rangan, expert in multimedia, underlined, “The A-VIEW project is the brainchild of world renowned humanitarian leader, Sri. Mata Amritanandamayi Devi and has undergone a decade of intense R&D by highly qualified computer scientists at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.”
