The project proposal titled “AI-based Coconut Dehusking Machine” from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has received funding from IEEE EPICS (Engineering Projects in Community Service). Led by Dr. Rajesh Kannan Megalingam (Principal Investigator) and Mr. Sakthiprasad K M (Co-Principal Investigator), the project aims to use artificial intelligence to simplify the process of dehusking coconuts, a challenging task for many farmers.
The traditional method of dehusking coconuts is labor-intensive and time-consuming, especially in regions like Kerala where coconut farming is common. The AI-based machine was designed to make this process safer and easier, helping small farmers save time and effort.
The funding from IEEE EPICS supported the development of AI models and prototypes. The project team worked closely with local farmers to ensure the machine met their needs and could make a positive impact.
