Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Participation in the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) Special General Body Meeting 2025

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham participated in the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) Special General Body Meeting (SGM) 2025 held virtually on 10 February 2025. This SGM saw the participation of 200+ academic leaders such as vice-chancellors, registrars, and IQAC heads from universities all over India. Dr. Prashant R. Nair, Head, IQAC, of Amrita’s Coimbatore campus, represented the university at the SGM. The SGM unanimously voted on amending the membership rules and regulations of the AIU bye-Laws, to enable granting Associate Membership to autonomous colleges. This meeting was presided over by Prof. Vinay Kumar Pathak, President,  AIU, and conducted by Dr. (Mrs.) Pankaj Mittal, Secretary General, AIU.  AIU is the largest university association in the world with 1064 member universities including 19 foreign universities as Associate Members, was established in 1925 and has been serving the higher education sector for the last 99 years. The stalwarts like Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, Dr. Zakir Hussain, and Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee have served as Presidents of AIU in the past. Over the years, it has made a niche for itself in terms of providing policy inputs to the Government of India on issues relating to higher education and the equivalence of foreign degrees with Indian degrees.
