Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham participates in the multi-country “SDG Global Conversation” Hosted by IU Indianapolis

On November 14, 2024, Indiana University (IU) Indianapolis organized “The University and the Community: Engagement for Success,” a dynamic forum focused on advancing sustainable development through community-based research. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham joined as an invited participant, alongside Moi University from Kenya, to explore ways to accelerate sustainable development initiatives through multi-stakeholder engagement.

The event featured distinguished talks by Dr Jeremy Price, Associate Professor of Technology, Innovation, and Pedagogy in Urban Education at IU Indy, and Tedd Grain, Vice President and Director of Social Determinants of Health at Eskenazi Health Foundation and Eskenazi Health. They shared insights from their extensive community engagement experiences and showcased the impactful projects they have initiated. The discussions focused on various community-centric engagement models in the areas of education and healthcare thereby focusing on SDG 3, SDG 4, and SDG 17. Amrita’s Live-in-Labs® program was highlighted during the discussions.

Representing Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham were Mr Renjith Mohan and Mr Krishna Nandanan from the Live-in-Labs® program, Amrita School for Sustainable Futures, as well as Dr. Sivakumar Venugopal, Dept of Health Science Research, Member & Coordinator- Research Ethics Committee & Scientific Review Committee, Amrita Institute of Medical Science, Kochi. The Amrita Center for International Programs coordinated the university’s participation.

The event was moderated by Prof. Ian McIntosh, Director of International Partnerships at Indiana University with additional contributions from participants across Indiana University.
