Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, under the guidance of Her Holiness Mata Amritanandamayi, Chancellor of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and Chair of C20 India 2023, initiated the ‘Global Seedball Campaign’ as part of the activities under the C20 Working Group “Sustainable and Resilient Communities (SRC).” The campaign was launched in Amritapuri, Kerala and aims to promote environmental sustainability and the restoration of ecosystems.
To commemorate World Environment Day, Amrita School of Engineering in Bangalore organized a seedball tossing and sapling planting event on June 5, 2023, at 10:30 AM. The event was attended by two eminent community leaders, Sri Narendra Kumar K., Police Inspector of Parappana Agrahara, and Shri Krishna Kumar, Assistant Executive Engineer of BESSB, Bengaluru.
The inaugural event marked the beginning of a series of seedball tossing events that will take place in different parts of the greater Bengaluru area in the upcoming weeks, aligned with the approaching monsoon season. The campaign aims to produce and distribute one million seedballs in 2023, with the goal of reforestation and promoting biodiversity.
The seedballs, which are compacted balls of seeds and nutrients, were arranged and provided by Dr. Gayathri Shivan, a faculty member of Amrita University’s Amritapuri campus, who played a crucial role in initiating the campaign. Dr. Amrita Thakur and Dr. Sarada Jayan from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s Bengaluru campus mentored the nature club, Prakriti, in coordinating all arrangements for the event.
Expressing gratitude to all participants, the university extended its thanks to those present at the event for their active involvement in the campaign and for contributing to the global green initiative.
