Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Kochi Campus celebrated World Environment Day by distributing 200 tree saplings to Edapally Amrita Vidyalayam, Kasturba English Medium School, and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Health Science Campus Kochi. The celebration aimed to promote environmental awareness and encourage sustainable practices among students and the community.
The event held at Amrita Hospital, Kochi, was inaugurated by Dr. Prem Nair, Medical Director, Amrita Hospitals. Aravind Lakshman, Principal, Kasturba English Medium School Manjummel, Kochi, Dr. U. Krishnakumar, Dean & HoS – Schools of Arts, Humanities, & Commerce, Kochi, Swamini Karunamrita Pranah, Brahmachari Samsiddhamrita Chaitanya, Director, Kochi Campus, Dr. K. Narayanan Unni, Chairman, School of Dentistry, Kochi, Dr. Beena K V, Additional Medical Superintendent, Dr. Balagopal Varma R, Principal, School of Dentistry, and Prof. Rajiv Prasad, Principal, School of Business, Kochi distributed the saplings to students and the faculties.
Dr. Beena K V, in her speech emphasized the critical role of students in environmental conservation. She highlighted this year’s theme, ‘Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience,’ under the slogan ‘Our Land Generation Restoration. She urged students to plant trees and contribute actively to restoring the land, stating, “They are the future who have the capacity to restore land, avoid desertification, and drought.”
The event was a resounding success, with doctors, students, and faculty members coming together to mark the day with a commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable living. The distribution of tree saplings symbolizes the beginning of a collective journey toward restoring our land and ensuring a healthier future for generations to come.
