Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham organized the Amrita Research & Innovation Symposium for Excellence (ARISE) 2024 from 7 to 10 January 2024. The symposium gave the academic and scientific community at Amrita a platform to collaborate and initiate interdisciplinary research initiatives in line with our Chancellor’s vision of fostering a world free from conflict, hunger, and disparities. The event evolved into a dynamic platform, acting as a driving force for creative solutions to pressing issues faced by the world today. Experts focused on key topics such as One Health, Ecosystem Restoration, Information Intelligence & Immersion, Disaster Resilience, Empowered Organizational Systems, Value-Based Education & Indic Studies, Ubiquitous Artificial Intelligence, and inclusivity, among others.
The inaugural event witnessed a special address by the Guests of Honour Dr. Venu Govindaraju, Vice President for Research and Economic Development, SUNY Distinguished Professor, University at Buffalo, USA and Dr. Upendra Kumar Singh, Director General – Life Sciences, Defence Research and Development Organisation, Government of India.
The symposium showcased 15 keynote speakers from various international universities, industry, governmental and non-governmental organisations. The key participating organizations are: University at Buffalo, DRDO, SERB, The University of Adelaide, Swansea University, Los Alamos National Laboratory, USA, University of New South Wales, Australia, Mahindra & Mahindra, Washington College, Maryland, USA, DST, Durham University, C-DAC, ScoreLife, IBM etc.
Additionally, the symposium hosted 15 workshops dedicated for enhancing the capacity of researchers in the areas of delivering high quality publications, developing creative data visualisations to communicate effective research outcomes, integrating systems thinking and geospatial concepts into our research explorations, patent harvesting, productization and instilling entrepreneurship concepts, and overall assisting in enhancing international and industry collaborations to deliver compassion driven research for global impacts.
Furthermore, a round table session on Desk Rejections and Publishing in High Quality Journals was also conducted along with 6 editors of high impact journals, namely the IEEE Biometrics Council Compendium, the International Journal of Business Performance and Supply Chain Modelling (Inderscience), he International Journal of Advanced Operations Management (Inderscience), Ad Hoc Networks Journal etc to name a few.
ARISE also featured the Amrita Innovation and Research Awards, with over 570 awards in various categories and seed grants exceeding 200 Million INR, to acknowledge the contribution and unwavering dedication of Amrita faculty members.
The symposium featured an array of activities, including workshops, exhibitions, poster sessions, Amrita Innovation & Research Awards (AIRA), cultural programs, and engaging panel discussions. The keynote sessions were centered around crucial topics such as Innovations Driving the Future of Mobility, Generative Artificial Intelligence, Future of Circular Economy, Harnessing Geospatial Intelligence for Global Challenges, Green Data Analytics of Supercomputing from Massive Sensor Networks, Digital Revival of the Knowledge Heritage of India, National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber Physical Systems (NM-ICPS), Sanatana Dharma etc.
