Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham was invited to participate in the Global Online Laboratory Consortium, at MIT, Boston on February 7-8, 2011, which was focused on promoting the development and sharing of, and research into remotely accessible laboratories for educational use. Participants included faculty from leading universities in Australia, Germany, South Africa, Spain, Nigeria, Uganda and many U.S. cities.
Prof. Prema presented Amrita’s Virtual Lab Simulation Labs and the Collaborative Accessibility Platform that allows the development and deployment of distributed virtual labs developed with diverse technologies. Dr. Krishnashree presented the Virtual Labs Remote Labs for higher education.
Prof. Prema Nedungadi participated in the ‘Education Committee Working Group’ meeting. Discussions centred around world-wide project deployments that benefit all participants, and the possible sharing of labs, and studies on laboratory learning pedagogy.
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is working on creating and implementing the world’s largest virtual laboratory education project supported by the National Mission on Education through ICT initiative, Govt. of India spanning over multiple disciplines and in partnership with IITs and other institutes.
AmritaCREATE, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is also building first ever free to use, Virtual Online Labs for high schools in the country, supported by the Department of IT and in partnership with C-DAC. The labs will be mapped to CBSE curriculum which is followed by over 10,000 schools in India.
