Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, inspired and led by world renowned humanitarian leader Amma as its Chancellor, appoints Dr. Sasangan Ramanathan, as its new Dean of Engineering at Coimbatore campus.
Inspired by Amma, Dr. Sasangan Ramanathan who is a highly accomplished technology leader from the United States of America, has just joined Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham as the Dean of Engineering at its Coimbatore campus. Dr. Sasangan brings with him over 20 years of international research and technology leadership experience. With a Ph. D. in Chemical Engineering from Clarkson University (USA), most recently Dr. Ramanathan served as Chief Technology Officer for a multinational company in the Silicon Valley, California.
Dr. Ramanathan’s areas of research include development of engineered materials for advanced semiconductor device manufacturing using various deposition techniques – physical vapor deposition, chemical vapor deposition and atomic layer deposition technologies. He has pioneered the development of unique materials with conductive, insulating and barrier properties required in advanced (sub 20nm technology nodes) semiconductor chip manufacturing. These materials are widely used by major memory and logic chip manufacturers such as Samsung, Intel, TSMC, SK Hynix, Toshiba, etc.
In his career he has also worked extensively with ferroelectric materials for non-volatile memory technology, insulating films for shallow trench isolation and inter-metal dielectric applications. He has also developed several novel catalysts that have superior resistance to poisoning compared to conventional catalysts used in sweet crude oil refining. Catalysts developed by Dr. Ramanathan can withstand extreme conditions of petroleum refining (typically used on refining heavy crude oil).
He has authored/co-authored over 45 publications in international journals and conferences and holds 12 patents. He also served on the International Technical Advisory committee in the American Vacuum Society’s topical conference on Atomic Layer Deposition. He is also an active participant and member of the advisory committee of topical conferences in Electrochemical Society and American Chemical Society and has chaired a number of international conference sessions.
In his management tenure, he has extensively built cross-functional teams, led strategic business development, and managed alliances/collaborations with key industry partners/consortia & universities across the globe. He has been instrumental in gaining significant market share (>80%) for the companies he has worked for. Dr. Sasangan has a strong passion for innovation, creativity, out of the box thinking, fast action, and total dedication to hard work.
