Amrita University Hosts Seminar on AI in Healthcare, Driving Research and Innovation

Amrita Healthcare Campus successfully hosted a one-day AI Primer Seminar to introduce the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in the medical field among the students. The event brought together industry experts, distinguished faculty from Amrita University and IIT, and leading professionals in the field of AI.

The seminar commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Anand Kumar. A special felicitation ceremony was conducted by Sri MV Thampi, setting an inspiring tone for the event.

The sessions covered a broad spectrum of AI applications in healthcare:

  • Vivek Menon provided an introductory session on AI and key terminologies, laying a strong foundation for the participants.
  • Muraleedharan delved into the potential of Natural Language Processing (NLP) in medical AI, exploring its implications in diagnostics and patient care.
  • Arka Ray discussed the applications of Data Science and AI in Microarray analysis, showcasing how AI can revolutionize genetic research.

The seminar featured presentations on ongoing AI-driven projects at Amrita, including innovative research in Neurology, Ophthalmology, Radiology, and Cardiology.

Dr. KP Soman shared valuable insights on integrating AI into the medical curriculum, highlighting lessons learned from his experience in engineering education. Sai Sunderkrishna spoke about AI-enabled high-precision healthcare, emphasizing its impact on patient outcomes and clinical efficiency.

A panel discussion, moderated by Sabarish Balachandran, brought together invited faculty members—KP Soman, Arka Ray, Sai Sundarakrishna, and Vivek Menon—along with in-house experts Sreehari, Srikanth Murthy, Sandeep, and Zubair Mohamed. The panelists discussed various applications of AI in Anaesthesia & Critical Care, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and Rheumatology, sharing their experiences and future outlook.

The seminar concluded with remarks by Dr. Jaideep Menon, who commended the participants for their enthusiasm and encouraged them to pursue further research in AI and ML for healthcare.

The event successfully ignited interest among students and faculty, paving the way for innovative research and collaboration in the evolving landscape of medical AI.
