An Amrita team, Jameer Babu (Semester 7 student of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri campus) and Dr. Athi Narayanan S. (Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri campus), have emerged as ‘Runner Up’ of NTIRE 2019 Challenge on Image Colorization for achieving best perceptual and objective quality. The challenge was held in conjunction with IEEE International Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR), during June 2019.
In this year’s CVPR-NITRE competition, the challenge on image colorization were to gauge and push state-of-the-art image colorization and to compare different solutions. The team directly adopted the colorization network to attend the no-guidance track and the IEEE report indicated that the team’s work outperformed in perceptual quality the results generated by some other algorithms which have much higher PSNR index.
