On behalf of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Dr. Shyam Diwakar, (Director, Computational Neuroscience and Neurophysiology and Associate Professor, School of Biotechnology, Amritapuri), was invited to attend the Iberoamerican Network of Pharmacogenetics (RIBEF) Symposium on “Ethnicity, Socio-cultural Context and Education for Health Research, Latin American, European and Asian Views about Education (values, attitudes), Sociocultural Contexts (Traditional Medicine) and Pharmacogenetics for Research on Humans.” held at Campus PHI, Acebo, Spain from October 6-7, 2019. He was also invited to the 5th Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS) working group meeting on clinical research in resource-limited settings, from October 8-9, 2019, at Mérida, Extremadura, Spain.
The RIBEF symposium aimed at discussing education and traditional medicine in the frame of ancient wisdom and ethnicity from the views coinvolving Europe, Latin America and India. At the RIBEF symposium, Dr. Shyam spoke on “Education Beyond Classrooms: Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Case Stories in Reaching and Connecting with the Diversity”, linking Amrita projects that have been crucial in connecting the masses to education and better data management methods.
At the CIOMS meeting, Dr. Diwakar spoke on “Being Sustainable: Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Case Stories” addressing various clinical and other achievements at Amrita Hospital and university including our flagship Live-in-Labs® experiential learning program. The CIOMS meeting was held at the Parliament of Extremadura region in Spain, attended by Mr. Antonio Rodríguez Osuna (Mayor of Mérida), Dr. Lembit Rägo (Secretary-General of CIOMS, Geneva, Switzerland), Mr. Angel Calle (Extremadura´s Agency International Cooperation for Development AEXCID, Extremadura Government), Prof. Antonio Hidalgo (Rector of University of Extremadura), Mr. Miguel A. Morales (Vicepresident of Extremadura Parliament), and was organized by Prof. Adrian Llerena and Prof. Eva Peñas-Lledó of University of Extremadura. The attendees included the entire CIOMS working committee members from WHO, NIH (USA), ICMR (India), among others.
During the visit, Dr. Shyam Diwakar joined the RIBEF members from Mexico, Nicaragua, Ecuador with hosts Dr. Adrian Llerena and Dr. Eva Peñas-Lledó from University of Extremadura, Spain, and visited the Rector, Prof. Antonio Garcia Hidalgo at his Rectorate office at the campus in Caceres, Spain.
